the people need to push back. the more i learn about what’s been going on behind the global economic scenes for the past four decades the more i feel the need to speak up about it and resist it.

what am i talking about? the WTO, IMF, world bank, G8, NAFTA, the list goes on. if you care about justice for the poor, for the masses of people all over the world who are working their asses off just to get by on some bread in a shack, and you see where things are headed in the US (recession/depression) then please get this book by Naomi Klein. i think the worst thing we can do right now is to be ignorant of the situation both here in the US and what our policies are doing abroad.

i’m halfway through it and want everyone who is mildly interested to pick it up. if you want, you can borrow my copy from me when i’m done- drop me a line. the timing of this book could not be more perfect. for more explanation on it, click the link above to get to the official site.

what to do? first off- get informed. you did not learn about this stuff in public school, and chances are- nobody is going to explain it to you now. you have to get off your butt and learn.

the problem (in general terms) is that out of the very small percentage of ultra-wealthy in the world, there are a chunk of people who want nothing more than to free up all regulation and control over the natural resources of the planet (oil, diamonds, cheap labor, etc) in order to reap astronomical profits over the short term. they don’t care who gets hurt or what the repercussions are. the question is, when those with these goals also happen to have a lot of political and legal power, who will stand up to them?

first off- here is a radio ad put out by an organization called matthew25.org

these guys represent something you may not have heard of- the pro-life democrats.

not only is it a thoughtful and persuasive ad being run on “christian radio” (where it is badly needed) but it refers to one of the few passages of scripture which still make sense to me- matthew 25. what do you think of these groups and their messages?

-PART TWO OF PRO-REGULATION

sarah palin recently said that we need “more regulation” on the financial markets to prevent further destruction of the US economy. i wonder if she’s heard of a guy named phil gramm… do you know who he is? he was one of the key proponents of the final deregulation of the market in 1999. he basically got the changes passed that put CEOs in position to make millions and MILLIONS of dollars from tax payer buyouts. here is the interesting part- Phil Gramm is also the republican mccain/palin campaign’s ECONOMIC POLICY ADVISOR. “we need more regulation” my ass. palin- if you really think this you’d better fire your economic advisor. i seriously can’t believe this ticket. these guys will screw us if they get the chance. they don’t care about anybody in this country but the richest 1 percent.

let’s wrap this up with a nice “generic-off” from John Stewart.
